This beautiful place is called Oak Avenue and it’s located inside the Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens property. Just like the house, you need to take the tour to be able to see Oak Avenue. "We began thinking about this show's scenery through the lens of memory, specifically through the idea of fragmentation and the unreliability of memory," they explained. Built in 1876, the Mansion is the largest residence in the city, boasting 35 rooms, a grand ballroom, Japanese water gardens, ornate chandeliers and a 90-foot cupola. Beautifully restored to its original glory, the mansion is a private home but there are daily tours. The run-down and dilapidated home by the water that Noah winds up purchasing and fixing up becomes a running theme throughout the film and even somewhat of a character in its own right. When it came out in 2004, it was hard to tell what a cult sensation “The Notebook” would be. The movie was adapted from a Nicholas Sparks novel and wasn’t immediately well-received by critics. However, audiences found so much to love in the bittersweet love story. Many were instantly taken with the chemistry of the two leads, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, and it became a breakout role for Gosling.
Most of the movie was filmed in Charleston, however, with Mount Pleasant's Old Village and parts of King Street serving as downtown Seabrook and several private and public homes in the area setting the historically accurate backdrop. The nursing scenes were filmed at Rice Hope (Black River) Plantation in Oatland – Georgetown County. The scene above is when Noah (James Garner) was reading a book containing their love story to Allie (Gena Rowlands) in the present day.
